A Little Bit of Quilting from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I got lucky with the weather for yesterday's outing again. Despite having entered the "Big Dark" season, it was a dry and sunny day. Sunglasses were required. That's three for three in a single week. This being our 46th year in the Pacific Northwest, I'm not naive enough to think this will continue, but I certainly appreciate it when it happens.

The spa where I get my pedicures is a new building. There's still construction going on all around it, but the landscaping at the spa is beautiful. I was surprised to ...

"Spices" Reveal: Saffron from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Finally, it's the day we've been waiting for...the reveal of my mystery quilt for the "Spices" prompt. Maybe it's not the day you've been waiting for, but I'm always happy when I can finally show these secret projects.

Okay, so "Spices." I wanted to do something floral. I couldn't figure out any other subject that wouldn't involve a line of jars. One idea was to do the flower from whence we obtain vanilla. It's a pretty flower. Here's one I found in the Openverse.

Settling in for Slow-Stitching from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Two projects made it to the next step yesterday. I'll tell you about that in a minute. First, I want to show you this morning's pretty sky. We're expecting rain by tomorrow, and so we're enjoying the blue sky while we can.

I'll tell you what else we're enjoying while we can...the last gasp of flowers. Things are Autumn pretty around town right now with so many colorful leaves on the trees. On closer inspection one can still find flowers. I found these Black-eyed Susans at the salon where ...

Quilting Commences from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Once again, I'm so happy not to be going anywhere this morning. There are a couple of little things on my to-do list, but otherwise, it's going to be a mostly quilting day (MQD). I can't spend too much time at my quilting because I don't want to give myself tendonitis in my wrist. And even as I write those words, I know my resistance is weak once I get started on something. When I'm in a rhythm, it's hard to stop.

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, Sue ...

Five Fabulous Fannies from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The busy weekend is over, and it's a new day. The sky was pretty this morning.

We had a really nice visit with the kids yesterday evening. We were celebrating Erik's birthday from last week, but mainly, we were just visiting. Time spent listening to the things they're doing is always enjoyable.

There was a lot to do yesterday morning, but I took some time to stitch the first stitches on the 6th of Grandpa's Bridges.

From there, I went straight to work, baking some cookies. These were just a present for ...

Marked Safe from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's dark as I'm writing this, although the sky is pinking up nicely. We're expecting another nice fall day here.

The one, shall we say, fly in the ointment are these annoying boxelder bugs. They're particularly annoying right now. This group is on the outside of the window where I sit. They're flying all around outside. When we're out, we're liable to have them flying into our hair or down our collars. Ick. They're completely harmless, thankfully.

I used to call these boxelder "beetles" until my entomologist friend ...

These Took Forever Quilt Blocks from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a lovely October day here in the Pacific Northwest. I told Mike yesterday I think this is the best time of the year here. On the other hand, I say that about all the seasons, with the possible exception of winter. On the other, other hand, I'm actually happy with the winter rain and snow. It's good sewing weather. The darkness is my only beef with winter weather.

The dahlias are making the most of their final days. As I've mentioned, the Firefighter dahlia is the most watched thing in the ...

Purrplexed from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's Friday morning...the weekend is almost here! Of course, in retirement, every day is Saturday. There are no days off. Just Saturday...day in and day out. We're feeling liberated right at the moment because we got our grocery shopping done yesterday, and so we're good for another week.

When we got home from our grocery shopping expedition, it was time to fill the birdfeeders. While we were gone...just two weeks...the birds left the scene. I'm sure some of them have flown south, but I was still surprised that ...

A Little of Everything from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Yesterday's activities made up for the previous day's inactivity. There were several things on my to-do list, and I managed to get through it all. The weeding isn't finished, and I'll have to do some more today. I think by the end of today's session, it'll be good to go until next spring.

While I was out yesterday, I took a few pictures of the things that are still blooming. There isn't much, but the echinacea continues to brighten its corner of the garden.

I'm so happy these ...

Home Again from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Happily, I'm sitting at my desk at home to write this post. How are y'all doing? It's been a while since we've spoken while stationary. Feels weird, doesn't it?

So lemme tell you about the drive home, and then I'll tell you what's going to happen next. We left Klamath Falls under sunny skies. The road out of Klamath Falls runs alongside Upper Klamath Lake. It's the largest body of fresh water by surface area in Oregon. It is approximately 25 miles (40 km) long and 8 miles ...
